INTRODUCTION

What does the phrase “going into an altered state”  mean?. How about trance?. If your ideas about both are anything like mine, then those are probably not  the kind of experiences  that you’re interested in having.

Without a doubt, It is the  connotations that both phrases evoke, that is the reason why these experiences may be off putting for some.  Connotations that link them to  what is widely perceived as questionable practices.  And especially to the idea of being out of control of oneself and behavior. The methods used to attain either state, are for the most part the same. Chanting is lone of those method that is linked to both states

Are the ideas evoked about trance and about being in altered states fact?. My own experiences have shown me that what happens in altered states and trance, depends on both knowledge and intention. I’v’e had both experiences and I actively and purposely repeat them.

Chanting is the rhythmic repetition of a single word or more elaborate phrases or sounds. It is often done in abstract sounding yet distinctive tones, pitch and frequencies. In Chanting, intention is paramount. Chanting can be directed inwards to create changes within the body or personal frequency. When it is directed outwards, it is usually done to create a palpable body of energy with the intention of directing that energy towards a specific object, or goal.

I’m a problem solver by nature and so I love asking questions and tracking down  the answers. That naturally translates to a preference for understanding concepts, and my own experiences at their simplest levels.  And then I like to be able to share what I’ve learned from dissecting both. Learning based on understanding has the benefit of greater acceptance because of rational understanding, and therefore a greater degree of memory retention and potential for successful application.

CHANTING CAN LEAD TO EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCES

When done correctly  and with intention, chanting is about deliberately changing your brain waves in order to get into a state of higher frequency and brain resonance. In such a state,  both brain hemisphere are in resonance. Here is the pathway that chanting opens up to allow you to have extraordinary experiences.

1. Pattern Recognition by the brain, triggers

2. Resonance of both brain hemispheres , ..leads to:.

3. Entrainment of consciousness & of the brain itself to the frequency that the pattern vibrates to.

HOW CHANTING WORKS & ITS EFFECT

The intention behind this blog post is twofold. The first is to break down what happens when you chant,  in order to show you the reasons why it’s such a powerful tool for getting into expanded states of awareness and heightened consciousness. The second is to give a comprehensive explanation of what chanting is, given that it’s a one of the two important tools that communities are directed to use in their group meetups for The Collective Mind Power Project.  So the information aims to bring important benefits on a personal as well as on the group level.

Chanting produces results that is A.) physical;  stemming from biological processes,  and B.) psychological  since it engages the emotions, and finally C.) Energy building, because it creates energy that amplifies with each repeated round of the chant.

The human body is a natural oscillator that is sensitive to the sounds and vibrations in the atmosphere. Sound being  the oscillation or vibration of  molecules of acoustic pressure that travel as a wave. And as it travels, it displaces the air through which its moving until it reaches the human ear. At which point the vibrations are perceived as sound. Everything  vibrates. From the smallest particles in an atom to large forms of mass including human bodies. And each vibrates at its own natural , or resonant frequency. Which is measured in cycles per second.

When you chant even though the sound originated from your own being, it is returned to you via the same exact process as would any other external sound. When you chant it sets up a vibratory frequency that begins in your ears, by causing your ear drum to oscillate and stimulating your whole auditory system. And then traveling to the auditory centers in your brain. where  the pitch and patterns of your chant affects your brain. When your brain enters resonance through chanting, both hemispheres, or sides of your brain go into coherence.

You should know that the vibrational energy of chanting can cause you to have physical sensation in your body and emotions. In the same way for example that happens when you hear song or poem, or even instrumental music that ‘moves’ you.

The rate at which sound, human bodies or for that matter anything else vibrates, is known as the resonant frequency  Every cell in the human body resonates with the sound vibrations to which it comes in contact with. However Each cell or organ has its own specific resonant frequency at which it will either emit or absorb certain frequencies.

CHANTING Vs. MEDITATION

For myself, I sometimes chant  as a simple quick way to induce a meditative state prior to actually meditating, or to change states, especially if I find myself in a less than desirable state of focus or calmness. Chanting always produces the same rapid transformation giving me an almost instant sense of power and harmony with my own consciousness that increases my clarity of mind and clarity of purpose. So I use chanting to reach different goals.

Ranging from being a prelude to get quickly into a deep meditative state, to taking one of those quick direct trips into higher frequencies and dimensions that are somewhat similar to an out of body experience   In the altered state, the extra Sensory Pathway becomes open and functioning with the  possibility of purposely interacting in a deliberate manner with the experience and with any incoming information.

Chanting allows us to let go, and to place our analytical left brain on pause.  When there is resonance, between the human brain and a sound, this results in different effects and experiences.  Mantras and chants are created and done with the goal of creating specific experiences and changes within the body. Most often it is the induction of trance that is the goal of focused prolonged chanting.

While it is true that altered states can also be achieved  by deep meditation, chanting is usually an easier way to get there. So for anyone who hasn’t quite yet mastered meditation, chanting could be a much easier path than having to attain deep coherent states of meditation.Though  I have to point out that some brain wave states and experiences that are available in meditation are not available through chanting.

However  there’s the good news.  Because by beginning with chanting, you also get the benefit of improving your meditation results. So that it actually becomes easier to get into those deep meditative states that you might otherwise struggle to achieve.

Trust Yourself as You Chant

Start your chant in whichever tone of voice that arises naturally in a low scale.

A POWERFUL FIRST EXPERIENCE

Several years ago with my first deliberate attempt at chanting, I had a very powerful and unusual experience. At the time I didn’t have the knowledge or experience to understand what was happening. I only knew that once again,  being always willing and adventurous, I had stumbled on a powerful and unexpected key that had unlocked a doorway of sorts.  However without knowing exactly where that doorway would lead.

My adventurous nature meant that back then, I would frequently learn by first experiencing, and then I would need to back track in order to search for the meaning and the information about what I had experienced.

For a long time I thought of this experience simply as my going “down the rabbit hole;" It was the kind of experience where reality had warped into something that was way out of the ordinary. My experience happened as a result of me chanting the Tetragrammaton, that is to say, "Yod Heh Vav Heh."

At the time, I had no specific expectation of what chanting those words would produce, Though I did think that it would hasten my search for understanding and self determination. I had also made the decision to chant  this particular chant rather foolishly and irresponsibly.  And I was maybe more than a little flippant in my choice because I had read somewhere, that doing so would undo the universe.

Of course I didn’t believe the claim. I dismissed it either as silly superstition, or else a ruse to dissuade those who might otherwise use this chant and discover some hidden secret. In my cluelessness I opened up a vortex and had to forcibly take myself out of my changed brain state to avoid going on a journey that I didn’t know the end destination.

Later on in my journey, I finally came to understand the power of chanting and the state that I had unwittingly induced. I could see what a powerful tool chanting is, and how it could and should be used with deliberate intention, when and if it’s focused on a specific outcome.

Its time to become a chant alchemist.

HOW TO CREATE & USE YOUR OWN CHANTS

In order to induce a useful degree of change, whether you’re aiming for coherent brain frequency or even trance, the stage needs to be set to create the correct mental and physical atmosphere in which the vibratory energy of the sounds and or words, will be raised quickly and effectively. it is important to be in a relaxed, allowing, anticipating and accepting state of mind. before beginning your chosen chant, you must be willing to give up conscious control.

Deep  breathing is a great way to begin to get ready to do your chants.  So do few deep breathing breath cycles until you feel calm and focused.  And once you’re ready to begin, aim for a lower register of your voice.  Of course don’t overdo it.  Just begin  your chant in a tone of voice that arises naturally in a low scale.

The chant should be done long enough to allow its energy to grow.  And with practice and careful observation, as you go along  you should be able to make adjustments to fine tune your tone in order to get your desired results. Some of the earliest effects that may be evident are; tingling in the spine or anywhere else in the body. Sometimes instead of tingling you may experience general humming inside your body, or even unusual automatic movements in your shoulders and or back.

It’s important not to hasten the practice or obsess about the outcome. Beyond that, practice in a relaxed manner makes perfect.  Just remember that chanting is not a new invention, it is in fact one of the most ancient spiritual method for raising one's energy in order to heal the practitioner, or someone else, or to direct energy towards the earth for a specific purpose such as increasing crops or bringing rain.

There have been absolutely incredible effects that have been recorded on the earth and atmosphere that have been achieved by certain groups. These groups include  Native Americans, and Jews in Israel. They’ve demonstrated the power of chanting with intention, and have been able to reach frequencies and resonance., that produce rain and other effects on the weather and on the natural world.
