THE BIBLE’S FIERY SERPENT, THE NEHUSHTAN

THE NEHUSHTAN: SISTINE CHAPEL PAINTING BY MICHELANGELO WADJET THE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN SNAKE GODDESS

INTRODUCTION

LAST UPDTED 7/7/24

Since you’ve  found yourself here, you probably already know, or else have guessed, that the Bible’s fiery serpent has something to do with the evolutionary energy known as Kundalini.

The intention behind the post, is to add another link to bring together all the pieces of the whole. To reveal the origin of Kundalini knowledge, as well as the what, how, and the why. What would Kundalini be doing in the Bible?. Even if it was placed there disguised under another name(s).  Acquiring the evolutionary benefits that this energy provided to those humans who successfully awakened it, was so life-changing. that it could threaten ancient societal order.

Knowledge is power. Knowledge gives you a better foundation from which to make decisions about your own belief system. And knowledge gives you the information that you need to take a quicker and easier path to success.

The Bible mentions several notable snakes, As it turns out, three of the most well-known ones, are all are the same snake. The first snake appears in Genesis in the Garden of Eden to tempt Eve. While the second snakes makes it’s appearance in the book of Numbers to save those Israelites who had fallen ill from the bites of fiery serpents. This second snake  was called the Nehushtan. and it was made of bronze.

The third snake was that pair that engaged in the famous ‘snake off’ in the Exodus. While these two snakes has fascinated me from childhood and still do even now that I ‘ve decoded their secret, I won’t be discussing them in this blog post.

A SNAKE BORN INTHE EXODUS

After their Exodus out of Egypt,  the Israelites became impatient and complained about both Moses and God, And that was when God sent the real life fiery serpents to bite and kill them. And later when the Israelites repented, god instructed Moses to make the bronze fiery serpent  around a pole and raise it up so that those Israelites who were bitten, could look upon it and live.

Numbers 21:6-9 And the Lord said unto Moses ”make thee a fiery serpent (Seraph), and set it upon a pole; and it shall come to pass that everyone that is bitten when he looketh upon it, shall live."

This Biblical story certainly qualifies for Winston Churchill’s  statement: ““It's a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma”

The proof; there are countless online discussions as to meaning of the Nehushtan. This gives insight as to just how puzzling this snake is to those who know the Biblical story. From what I’ve read, that passage about the Fiery Serpent has caused a lot of problems from those who follow the Bible literally. There is just no good feasible explanation for this one. At least none that I’ve read.

How are we to reconcile a Serpent of all things as a healer. ! Especially in light of the fact that it was a serpent in the Garden of Eden, that reportedly caused all of humanity’s problems in the first place. And now here is the Creator, first using serpents to kill his children the Israelites. And then using a bronze serpent to cure them.

Even as a child, I was that child who would say out loud; “the king is in his all together.”

To explain, this impossible to solve riddle is the result of borrowing an idea/belief to represent something other than its original intent. It’s one more  appropriation of a snake from that ancient civilization that so many today are fascinated by, yet know little about. Because of the incorrect assumptions and translations that have been made about this civilization called Ancient Egypt.

In Egypt, the Snake Goddess Wadjet (also known as the Uraeus), was described and sometimes portrayed, as a snake wrapped around the stalk of a papyrus reed. Looking at an image of the painting of the Nehushtan on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel that was done by Michelangelo, It’s difficult not  to see the similarities between the Nehustan and The Goddess Wadjet. And incidentally also the Goddess kundalini. ( the better known offspring of Wadjet)

Both in Genesis as in Numbers, the Bible is covertly warning of the dangers of fiery serpents (aka Kundalini energy, or to be precise the evolutionary electromagnetic energy that can awaken in humans, and take them beyond the usual human limitations. Imagine God reasoning ( or the Bible writers)  that what the Israelites needed was an artificial bronze snake to save them from the bites of real snakes.

The Israelites apparently began to worship this graven image. So later along comes King Hezekiah who instituted a reform that required the destruction of the Nehushtn. Even if it was a sacred object that God had instructed  Moses to make. Hezekiah had had enough of the wayward Israelites worshipping graven images.

The Roman Catholic Church at the time of the artist Michelangelo, painting the ceiling of The Sistine Chapel, obviously did not get the memo about the fiery serpent having fallen out of grace. Because in the paintings  that was done between 1508 and 1512, under the patronage of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo was commissioned to paint Biblical scenes on  the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, to include this scene of the Israelites’ deliverance from the plague of serpents by the creation of the fiery bronze serpent.

This scene is just a few panels away from Michelangelo’s  famous painting “ The creation of Adam”. . Why would  Pope Julius have had Michelangelo include the controversial serpent on a pole painting on the ceiling?. and even staying with the original explanation as found in Numbers? Could it be because the Pope knew things that those interpreting The Bible literally today have yet to understand about the knowledge that came out of Ancient Egypt?
