The Alchemy of Chanting

It is possible to Harness the energy of Sound &  Frequency, that isproduced through Chanting, and use this energy for a specific purpose. When we chant, our brain waves may enter into resonance with the chant through entrainment.  Therefore the right intention and the right chant with any known associations should be the first step to successful chanting for a desired outcome. Chanting allows us to let go, and to place our analytical left brain on pause.

Several years ago I had a very powerful and unusual experience that I touched on briefly in the accounts of my Kundalini Awakening. At the time I simply did not have the knowledge or experience to understand what had transpired. I only knew that I stumbled on some magical key ( I've always been willing and adventurous) that had unlocked a doorway of sorts but not knowing exactly where the doorway would lead, I demurred. My adventurous nature meant that I would frequently learn by experiencing and then would need to back track in order to search for the meaning and the information about what I had already learned by experience.

For a long time I simply referred to this unusual experience as going "Down the Rabbit Hole;" the kind of experience where reality had warped into something other wordily. It began with chanting, specifically chanting the Tetragrammaton, "Yod Heh Vav Heh." I had no specific expectation of what chanting these words would produce, though I did think that it would hasten my spiritual advancement. The effect was that I quickly found myself caught up in a very forceful spinning vortex of energy. Only much much later did I come to understand the power of chanting and the state that I had unwittingly induced. I finally came to understand what a powerful tool chanting is, and how it may be used deliberately ( once one has sufficient knowledge to do so) to make incredible progress on the spiritual path.

I still chant frequently sometimes as a rapid aid to induce a meditative state prior to actually meditating, or to change states, especially if I find myself in a less than desirable emotional state. Chanting always produces the same rapid state transformation giving me an almost instant sense of power and harmony with my higher self. And as I delve deeper into understanding the effects that sounds, including chanting has on humans, I've been able to build a repertoire of useful empowering chants. The easiest and to date most powerful chant that I regularly use is the word 'God.' doing so with the full understanding of God being Primal Creative Source. Chanting this word always produces powerful immediate effects for me. I also find this spectacularly amusing as prior to embarking on my Spiritual Journey I was a most devout card-carrying atheist.

Chanting is the rhythmic repetition of a simple single word or elaborate words or sounds often done in a deep monotonous tones and specific frequencies. It is most often directed inwards. When it is directed outwards, it is usually done to create a palpable body of energy with the intention of directing that energy towards a specific object, or goal.  Chanting transforms the body's rate of vibration to the point that raises the performer(s) and listeners up to higher frequencies such as Love and Harmony with The Divine.  Chanting is therefore an effective method of getting into a state of higher consciousness.

The human body is a natural oscillator that is extremely sensitive to the sounds and vibrations in the atmosphere around. Sound is composed of vibrating molecules of pressure that travel as a wave displacing the air through which it travels until it reaches the human ear. The rate at which sound, human bodies or for that matter anything else vibrates, is known as the frequency which is measured in cycles per second. Every cell in the human body resonates with the sound vibrations to which it comes in contact with. However Each cell or organ has it's own specific resonant frequency at which it will either emit or absorb certain frequencies.

When there is resonance, between the human body and a sound or sounds, this results in different effects and experiences.  Mantras and chants are created and done with the goal of creating specific experiences and changes within the body. Mot often it is the induction of trance that is three goal of focused prolonged chanting. This may be accompanied and heightened by drumming or other musical instruments such as gongs, flutes or chimes. Chanting vowels can be particularly important as the seven main Chakras can be activated by the vowel sounds, but interestingly also by intoning a combination of certain consonants and vowels.

In order to induce a useful degree of trance, the stage needs to be set to create the correct mental and physical atmosphere in which the vibratory energy of the sounds and or words, will be raised quickly and effectively. it is important to be in a relaxed, allowing, anticipating and accepting state of mind. before beginning the chosen chant.  one must be willing to give up control. It is equally important to quiet the mind chatter of questioning and criticism by turning the brain off. Fortunately the effects of resonant sound causes this to oscillate quite naturally. Once the relaxed state is attained through deep breathing and focused relaxation or any personal method that the practitioner has found to work. The chant should commence in whichever tone or key that arises naturally.

Through intention and a relaxation, it is surprisingly naturalfor the voice to effortlessly enter into tones that will resonate with higher vibratory frequencies.  The chant should be done long enough to allow it's energy to grow . with practice and careful observation adjustments can be made to fine tune the practice to get the desired results. Some of the earliest effects that may be evident, are actually the same as early Kundalini awakening symptoms. That is to say, tingling in the spine or anywhere else in the body. Sometimes instead of tingling there may a general humming throughout the body and flashes of light being seen. Jerking 'krya' movements or a feeling of sexual arousal may occur as the effects of the chanting become stronger.  This feeling is caused by Kundalini moving through the Root and Sex Chakras

Other more profound effects such as a feeling of a loss of balance or spinning, may herald a profound state of ecstasy not unlike those evoked by hallucinogen plants. this state may lead to visions especially of a prophetic nature.  initially it is a good idea to jot down some notes each time chanting is done so that it is easy to see what produces the most acceptable results. The beneficial effect on the actual Chakras may result in an energized body, a greater sense of well-being, and increased mental and spiritual clarity. Each practitioner should decide for themselves beforehand, what is the desired goal of chanting and what would be the cut-off point if one is desirable.

You should not hasten the the practice or obsess on the outcome. Beyond that, practice in a relaxed manner makes perfect.  Just remember that chanting is not a new invention, it is in fact one of the most ancient spiritual method for raising one's energy in order to heal the practitioner, or someone else, or to direct energy towards the earth for a specific purpose such as increasing crops or bringing rain. The sometimes incredible effects on the earth and atmosphere that have been achieved by certain groups such as native American Indians, is a demonstration of frequency and resonance., and chanting can also produce such amazing effects.
