Okay so You Are Awake, Now what?
What follows after a person has experienced the call to awaken?. As the newly-minted Spiritual seeker strives to attain that barely definable state that is a combination of bliss, discovering The Divine, knowing the inner self and then releasing that self to live in a state of perfection. For most spiritual neophytes, what follows next is meditation, reading spiritual books and or studying eastern teachings such as Buddhist, Hindu and Yogic philosophies. The attempt is made to understand these philosophies for the obvious reason that they were the first messengers who introduced the practice of meditation and the knowledge of enlightenment to the western world.
Behind these practices is the idea that one is seeking to become something that one was not prior to receiving the urge to awaken. While these practices are absolutely valuable and instructive, for many spiritual seekers, they fail to bring about the expected change, for a variety of reasons. The first, is that enlightenment is not a state that we become through doing. Enlightenment does not depend on learning or even intellect. We are all already enlightened, because we are already created as perfect beings. Our seeming imperfections arise out of our being in a state of illusion about our true identity. This might seem somewhat confusing and contradictory, however It is simply that you first need to believe it, in order to have it manifested.
Enlightenment is both the process and the end result of having seen through the illusion and then allowing the higher self, which is Pure Consciousness or Source itself, to guide the physical being until enough understanding has been attained and the essential bond is consciously forged between the physical, mental and spiritual. Then the three becomes the one. in the Holy Trio of Father, Son and The Holy Ghost; the harmonized self. Now the seeker's illusion of being a physical body is completely overturned and firmly renounced. From this point on there is no going back. What is learned cannot be unlearned. This is the point from which the evolution of consciousness commences and the seeker begins to learn how to allow consciousness to teach him and to perform miracles which the Hindus call Siddhas
Until the seeker first contemplates, understands and then accepts this simple fact, no amount of doing or learning will bring about the hoped for change. Instead, quite the contrary there is a strong risk of feeling lost, disappointed in one's spiritual practices and adopting a wide range of myths, pseudo spiritual practices. Some turn to mixing that 'old time religion' fire and brimstone template. Conjuring up of aliens, demons and angels and a plethora of fear-based beliefs, to supplement the missing spiritual understanding.
Yet the primal creative source that the seeker is yearning to connect with, this omnipotent, omniscient power, has been remade by some doubtful seeker sinto a sterile, weakened elusive energy, that must be assisted at every turn with various questionable beliefs and practices, if enlightenment is to take place in the seeker. This magnificent force apparently cannot be trusted to take care of the business of enlightenment, to hear some spiritual seekers tell it, when all that is needed is trust and love. This is the same intelligent force that created universes!!.
For still many spiritual seekers, being "on the path," has become somewhat equivalent to 'being saved" as practiced by some self-righteous adherents of organized religion, who vainly imagine that they have attained some superior standing above the rest of humanity. Likewise some spiritual seekers imagine themselves to be superior to those who have yet to awaken. If one is on the path, it must stand to reason that one has been blessed with superior understanding and intellect by the mere fact that one has recognized the urge to seek "something greater." These would-be spiritual adepts, often think nothing of harshly labeling the objects of their disdain with a creative list of judgemental adjectives. Since one of the truths of enlightenment that one must accept, is that "all is one, " meaning that there is only one self placed into many separate bodies. This obviously presents a problem with making any progress on the 'so called path.'
Love, being central and essential to enlightenment, this obvious lack of love, further complicates things. Without love for others and oneself, there is no enlightenment; Self-delusion perhaps but not enlightenment. I've been asked for than a few times, or else had it pointed out to me in no uncertain terms, that it's just not possible to love certain people who commit atrocious acts The idea to remember is that when human laws are broken, penalties have already been put into place. The Seeker does not declare love for acts of violence, or hate. Instead he practices non judgement, mindful that when one human carries out any reprehensible act against other humans, that human is still deep in illusion. Yet within is the same Divine Life Force waiting to be freed.
Imagine for a moment having a severe headache and making the decision to cut off your head because it is causing you a tremendous problem because of the pain that it is causing. or maybe even deciding that you will not allow anymore blood to flow to your head until it ceases causing you this problem. The result is evident.
When we practice kindness and forgiveness we are being our true selves, which is Source. when we criticize or condemn no matter how great the justification may appear, we stain ourselves with our own words of hate or non-forgiveness. We simply cannot escape our words, thoughts and actions against another. We may take this entire life-time and many more before we "get it." but get it we must. Enlightened souls have understood the simple truths outlined and enlightened souls vibrate at love. The quickest path out of the illusion is the decision to love.
